I arrived at Loyd Buckley's office at 11am today a bag of nerves for the test on my comprehension of the Pre Course Reading material, a one page handwritten essay type question and the typing test. I'd studied the material in depth last night after reading it through many times over the past few weeks.
I had made notes on points I needed to revise and get right in my own mind and had a head full of Police History, Community Policing strategies, Rank and Structure, Legal Frameworks, Treaty of Waitangi and Strategic Objectives.
First up I had a 28 question multi choice test on the material. It was immediately obvious that I had over-studied and the answers were of the "two are obviously wrong, and two are nearly right but either could fit but not one stands out as being right" style. I was glad I studied though and thankfully passed the test although I wasn't told how many I did get right. To be honest I didn't ask - I was just happy to pass!
Time for the written test. All prepared to write about some of the areas I had studied I was suprised to see the topic. Me.
Yes, I was to write a page about myself, the thing that would be checked was whether the writing was legible, punctuation and grammar was ok, and it made sense. I was relieved and disappointed at the same time!
Loyd said that I passed that too, so two down out of three.
I then sat at the computer and copy typed a section on Policing and Structure. It ended up over 40 words per minute (a pass), which is less than I usually type but I got the shakes and slowed down to make sure I was accurate rather than quick but sloppy.
In the end they were all passes, so one more step closer to finishing everything. Loyd will come over to our home next week for the "Family Interview" and I need to do the First Aid Course and Swimming Certificate. I've booked to re-sit the PAT in January 2009 and then it's the Final Medical exam and all finished.
