I declined to make myself available for summer policing in the Mount and Tauranga this year as I just could not work 18 hours a day (normal work and then 10 hours Police work).
I had my final medical in October 2010. This was a rush to fit in between trips to Christchurch and they found that I had high blood pressure. Borderline hypertension apparently. The Doctor saw no reason for it but wondered if my kidneys were playing up (??). I blame the stress from a month worth of Earthquake claim damage work.
I sent off the medical results to the recruiting officer who said that I would hear back in 6 - 8 weeks. I hadn't heard back by mid December so I contacted the RO, who said that a letter had been posted to me in early November. I had not received it.
A copy was posted, and duly received, which stated that in order to continue further I needed to have twice weekly blood pressure tests over three weeks, a 24 hour urine test and an ultrasound of kidneys and internal organs, all at my own cost.
There was no time (or $$ available) to have the tests done by Christmas.
I have now done all that was required ($250 for the ultrasound, $70 doctor's consultation, $10 each BP test - all adds up) and await the doctors letter to send back to recruiting. No issues were found at all. I'm a very fit and healthy 41 year old apparently!
I go back to waiting waiting waiting...
