In the beginning ...

I have always had a real interest in Policing. From a young age I have looked up to the "Boys in Blue" and have had a deep respect for what they achieve, in often trying conditions. My Grandfather was a Police Officer in the UK in WW2 and although I cannot recall being influenced by his career I do believe he influenced my upbringing and temperament.

I initially wished to apply to join Police in the late 1980's, but it was suggested that I enter the workforce and gain life experience first.

I then met and married my wonderful wife, and made further enquiries in the early 1990's. At that time I was unable to proceed towards recruiting as my uncorrected (without glasses or contacts) vision was less than the required standard of 6/12. At that time Laser eye surgery was a new procedure and not deemed proven enough for new recruits.

Three children followed and now I find myself in 2008 progressing finally towards my dream. This blog will provide an overview of my progress, and may also explain the procedures one goes through in order to join the NZ Police.

It certainly isn't the easy and straightforward procedure that some would imagine!
