Lasik Eye Surgery

I had my initial eye examinations in Tauranga in June 2007 and booked in for Lasik correction surgery in July 2007. My surgery was conducted at Bridgewater Laser Eye Surgery in Hamilton near the end of July 2007.

The procedure was un-nerving but painless. After 3 months I obtained the all clear from Bridgewater with 6/6 vision in both eyes. I still had a bit of a 'halo' (glare) from bright lights at night that improved in time.

I had to wait 6 months (stand-down period) before I could undertake a Level One and Two Visual Examination . These were conducted at Bridgewater and the Vision Development Centre respectively, both in Hamilton.

The Level One examination was straight forward and involved reading letters on an eye chart as you would normally do at an optician. Then drops were put in my eyes to dialate my pupils... as a result I had blurry vision for a few hours afterwards and was extremely sensitive to sunlight. Thank god my wife came with me to drive me home!

The Level Two examination was intensive and took about 90 minutes. It involved lots of bright lights and interpreting figures and numbers in difficult conditions.

This entire process left my wallet about $5,000 lighter!
